Lung Leavin' Day 2014
What would you do differently if you were told you had 15 months to live?
That’s what happened to Heather Von St. James at the age of 36 after giving birth to her daughter Lily.
Heather was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a rare cancer commonly caused by exposure to asbestos, and had to go through risky surgery. This surgery would remove her left lung. Eight years later, and Heather, along with her family, celebrate the day she went through the operation as Lung Leavin’ Day on February 2.
On this day, Heather invites others to celebrate as well, but not only for her triumph, but for the victories we face on a daily basis. Overcoming fear can be, well — scary! To help her family and friends overcome their fears Heather invites everyone to write whatever setbacks they have in mind on a plate and then they smash them in a fire. Pretty cool, right?
Other ways people can participate in Lung Leavin’ Day is to donate and continue to spread the word. Last year, Heather and her team were able to reach more than $4,500. Can we make it to $5K?
‘Til next time, loves…
