Kindergarten Prep With Highlights

This is a sponsored post in partnership with Highlights and The Motherhood.

Summer is almost here and our four-year-old just graduated VPK. To help him prepare for his kindergarten school year, we’ve been looking into two apps: Highlights Hidden Pictures Puzzles and Highlights Hidden Pictures Puzzle Town. One of which we’ve already recommended to our nephew since he loves fun educational apps as well.

Thinking back to my first encounter with Highlights as a child, I remember how excited I was to hear I would be receiving a magazine with my name on it. It was part of a school subscription package and I was asked by a teacher if I was interested. I said yes without really knowing that all these fun activities were actually teaching me something. Just as its tagline suggested, “fun with a purpose”, I was learning a lot and I didn’t even notice it.

Understanding The Content

Before allowing our kids to watch anything through media outlets, I always sit down with them to explain what’s going on. It not only gives me a peace of mind, but it also lets the kids better understand the content being shown.

Through the use of the Highlights Hidden Pictures Puzzle Town app, our four-year-old can practice some of the skills that were presented to him during his pre-school years and prepares him for everyday life. Finding familiar objects in the pictures and talking about how easily they could be confused with certain items is interesting to him.

As he continues to explore the world around him, it amazes me to see just how much he’s been able to take in. With tools like the Highlights Hidden Pictures Puzzle Town app, he learns how to use the skills to understand how the world works.

The Highlights Hidden Pictures Puzzle Town app is made for Preschool, ages 3-6 and offers 5 puzzle types including the famous, Hidden Pictures™ puzzles you child will grow to love. They will also able to engage with adorable characters and accessories to enhance play and personalization; and play with exciting bonus mini-games that help earn more collectibles.

If your child is 6 and older, then I recommend looking into the Highlights Hidden Pictures Puzzles which offers timeless, challenging fun. The Highlights Hidden Pictures Puzzles is even popular with adults as well. Your child can use the app to practice skills like:

– Attention to detail;
– Concentration;
– Vocabulary;
– Persistence;
– Figure/ground perception; and
– Object constancy

Throughout the summer, Highlights is offering summer-themed bonus puzzles for your little ones to enjoy and kick-start their summer vacation. The limited-time bonus puzzles are available for Hidden Pictures™ Puzzles now through June 17 and June 18-30 for Hidden Pictures™ Puzzle Town.

*The two apps are available free of charge for 30 days. This will give your little ones the opportunity to try each one before making the commitment to pay each month. After the 30 days, the Highlights Hidden Pictures Puzzle app is $3.99/mo and the  Highlights Hidden Pictures Puzzle Town is $2.99/mo. You can cancel anytime.

  1. I like the sound of these apps. My niece and nephew would benefit from them.

    1. Definitely! Feel free to share this post with their parents.

  2. I used to love playing these games as a kid, granted without the device. Still loads of fun either way. Yay for starting school!

    1. I hear ya, but times have changed, and kids love technology. Some kids even know how to work gadgets better than adults!

  3. My son uses some education related apps too. But only to certain extent.

    1. We’re the same way. We like to limit their screentime, but apps like these are great because you know what your little one is watching is beneficial.

  4. I love that Highlights is now an app. I remember reading it when I was a little kid, and I loved it.

    1. Isn’t it great? I was excited about it as well. I mean, now I don’t have to worry about lost pages (this would happen to me since I took the magazine EVERYWHERE as a kid). 🙂

  5. This sounds like a great app to help with children’s minds, while giving them something fun to do as well.

    1. Exactly! It’s always a exciting to see how much our kids gain from educational content.

  8. I loved Highlights when I was a kid! I didn’t know there was an app, but that sounds perfect! My little one still has another year of preschool before kindergarten, but she’s still going to get a lot out of this app.

  9. My niece has her favorite apps. I do wonder if this one is one of them. I will have to ask her. If not, I’ll surely tell her about this app. She’s going to love this.

  10. My youngest would love this app. Ill have to see if its available on his kindle fire tablet for kids.
