#RISEwithKmart Stops By Miami

Kmart recently announced its partnership with Risewear, a new lifestyle athleisure brand. To help promote the exclusive launch, Kmart is touring six cities this summer. Cities include Miami, Jersey City, and Chicago.

Each event  features competitions between some of the world’s top dunkers on custom branded half-courts at Kmart parking lots around the country. And then there’s the epic dunk contest featuring current Risewear athlete and veteran dunker Taurian “Air Up There” Fontenette along with Chris Staples, Guy Dupuy, Porter Maberry and Jonathan Clark.

Kelly Cook, CMO of Kmart, sat down with Bloggin’ Mamas during the RISE Challenge here in Miami on July 30th, 2016. The event took place at the 12350 South West 8th Street location. Of course, Kelly had her pair of sneakers on as she ran around meeting and greeting attendees.

The price for a pair of Risewear basketball sneakers is $45. During the RISE Challenge event in Miami, the sneakers were at half price. So it’s worth being one of the first to get your hands on one of these.  Currently, youth sizes start at 13. More sizes will be available during basketball season.

Some Twitter Love
For those who weren’t able to attend the event but wanted a pair of sneakers, Bloggin’ Mamas CEO Heather Lopez hosted a live Twitter party during the event along with a giveaway for one lucky participant.

With two graffiti artists on-site, attendees were able to grab a pair of Risewear sneakers and have them customized with their favorite cartoon character or initials. One attendee even had an artist design a Pokemon!

Here’s a snippet of how intense the games were. Watch as the crowd goes wild on this shot:

There are three more stops left for the Rise Challenge. If you’re in the Washington D.C., Jersey City or Chicago area, make your way to any of these Kmart locations:

  • Saturday, August 6 – Kmart Washington D.C (6411 Riggs Road, Hayattsville, MD 20783)
  • Saturday, August 13 – Kmart Jersey City (321 Stadium Plaza, Suite. 10, Jersey City, NJ 07305-4877)
  • Saturday, August 20 – Kmart Chicago (3443 West Addison Street, Chicago, IL 60618)

You can grab your digital tickets to the Rise Challenge in advance when you download the Kmart app on your smartphone. Each download scores access for you and up to three friends.

  1. Ah well. Shared but this isn’t going anywhere near where I live. The shoes are reasonably priced! We only have one K-Mart left, and it isn’t well maintained. Sad.

    1. Sorry to hear that. We had a similar situation back in NJ. And yes, they are reasonably priced basketball sneakers. You never really find affordable and comfortable basketball sneakers for the kids around this time of the year.

  2. I do enjoy watching the athletic talent that goes into dunking!

K-Mart was really popular when I was younger – now I rarely ever go to one because Walmart, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, Kohl’s, and other similar stores are more attractive for a number of reasons.
